To touch on the real vs fake wheels top that seems to be going around these days I’d like to show you guys this video. Now I’m not saying that all imitation parts have the same poor quality, but most of the time they’re not to par. You get what you pay for, if it is too good to be true then it usually is, right?

Now let’s say a rota and a ray wheel are tested against each other. They both break at the same weight and force, but due to the way ray makes their wheels the wheel will bend and deform at the spot, but the rota will generally crack and give way. If any of you understand how metals work it’s that they way a metal is treated can change it’s characteristics. Ray’s process of forging wheels is more expensive, but in the long run it makes a metal that can bend without breaking. Rota’s process is cheap and affordable it may reach the same requirements but when it gives it breaks and cracks instead.

Before you go on and say WELL THEN I MIGHT AS WELL PAY FOR THE ROTA SINCE YOU SAY IT LIVES UP TO THE SAME STANDARD! Wrong. Why would you want a bending wheel vs a breaking wheel? Let’s imagine you’re driving hard on the track and all the sudden you messed up and entered into a turn to fast and hit the dirt or dropped off a kerb hard and your passenger side front wheel fails. The imitation wheel will break and now pieces of wheel are tearing up your wheel well and if you’re AWD or FWD it just messed up your half-shaft boots and rubber bushings. That’s not all now your barrel has completely broken off (the extreme case) your hub hits the floor and your wheel bearing is now fucked because you have a bearing and hub assembly. Your brake rotor is messed up and if you’re unlucky and have a caliper mounted fairly low now that’s broken too. In the case of a ray wheel or quality wheel your wheel would bend, you will lose air in your tire, but your suspension and brake components would still be protected. You will break bumper and side skirts in either situation but one is more costly than the other.

OH BUT IT’S OK THAT WHEEL WAS CHEAP AND THE MONEY I SAVED I CAN USE TO BUY THOSE PARTS BACK. Now you’re just being selfish. Imitation wheels are exactly that. Imitations. They didn’t hire a creative person with a passion for design, they hired someone who can google images of wheels and draw them out on a computer. Imagine being the inventor of something. You have a real passion for the item you invented so you put in your blood, sweat, tears, and possibly borrowed money into your item making sure it’s the best quality for the consumer as well as gets the job done. Now a guy comes along looking to make a quick buck he doesn’t care for the consumer he cares about profit margin. Uses low production costs for a low retail price. Gets the job done right? Might not be the most user friendly but if it works it works. People buy that because they don’t know any better they buy it because of the price tag.

HKS went out of business once and came back (thank God) and it’s because of companies who make the same thing with less quality. Before you say this video is rigged when it comes to the scene they drop both wheels you have to understand how physics works. When the imitation wheel cracks it absorbs all that force and breaks. The energy was all spent on the wheel and the wheel gave in. The Wed wheel makes the weight and the board below it bounce because it is able to take that energy and push it away without causing the wheel to break. If you took a cracked crankshaft and stood it up then dropped it on it’s end you will hear a thunk. If you took a fresh crank brand new from the machine shop and dropped it on it’s end it would ring like a church bell.

There’s so much more I could go into, but I feel already people won’t read this whole thing except for a few people.

TL;DR You get what you paid for

Cool ill still buy rotas and spend my money on gas and Track days instead of getting a loan for fucking wheels. Just so you know the company that makes rota also makes wheels for Ford, Nissan, Isuzu, Mercedes-Benz, Opel and Volkswagen and many many more now if your gonna sit there and tell me I need to go pay 6k for new wheels on my girlfriends Sentra So they are “safe” you can kindly fuck off and go get covered in Rays Spunk Juice since you like sucking their cocks so much.

other than that keep posting cool cars Bro :p

also Edit go look at Panasport, Minilite, and Watanabe and tell me Wheel design is not incestuous as fuck everyone copys everyone

Never did I say don’t buy imitation or fake wheels. I was simply stating why real wheels are priced the way they are. If you think those companies use ROTA as OEM wheels you got your information from a crackhead. Nissan has used ray wheels as OEM for years now. Volkswagen uses Borbet and BBS wheels very frequently. Notice how the example I used was in a motorsport situation. I believe I also stated I’m not implying imitation wheels are weaker or less safe than real wheels. I could care less what you put on your girlfriends car I never said only buy real wheels. I do realize there are many recognized companies with exceptional wheels that happen to resemble wheels another company had made first, but majority of those companies have their own original wheels.

You sir, are just making an ass of yourself.
